Construction Update

Been awhile since I've posted any photos of the construction going on outside our window. They are making good headway it looks like. And there are even a couple of scary cranes that I am hoping do not fall on our apartment. *crosses fingers*

Hard to believe there used to be the old Broadway QFC there. And Bartell's. And Taco Bell. And a house and four-story apartment building.

Construction Update

I kind of like watching how the construction is progressing across the street. I may not be able to take any good super secret spy photos of people crossing the old QFC parking lot anymore, but at least I can document the digging of the foundation and subsequent building activities. (Did I really just type the phrase: "subsequent building activities?" Does that even mean anything?)

Also, while I'm at it, I figured I would throw up a photo of the former QFC/Bartell's/Taco Bell location on Broadway. This is the view from our apartment window, and as you can see, it is looking fairly bleak. I'd put up some pics before of them tearing everything down. I'll try to keep people updated on how construction is progressing. And I'll be sure to tell you ALL about how annoying it is to wake up to the sounds of heavy machinery and shouting construction workers.

Buildings Went Boom - Plus a Reindeer!

As you can see from the above photo, the old QFC, Bartell's, Taco Bell, small house, and four story apartment building that formerly lived on this block are no more. Now they are busy hammering up all the concrete foundations, which is giving me a headache since this is all happening outside my window. But there's more... Amazingly enough, when I snapped this picture, I also captured a shot of the elusive "Urban Seattle Reindeer" that is an endangered species never before captured on film. It is known to be attracted to construction sites, used coffee grounds, and dalmations. There is also a strange orb visible in the photo. Obviously I caught a ghost in the shot too. Can you believe it? Two mysterious beings in one simple photograph? I've contacted the Weekly World News and am currently in negotiations to sell them the rights.

Construction Junction

I'm having a hard time getting any good super secret spy photos anymore since they fenced off the parking lot across the street and started tearing down the building. Living right off of Broadway I do see a lot of people that would be perfect for my purposes, but I usually don't have my camera on me. And they might get pissed if I randomly took their photos. Although come on, if you are going to wear some crazy get up and walk all over Capitol Hill, you are obviously trying to attract attention. You aren't fooling anybody. We know you just want to be looked at.

Anyhow, they fenced it all off across the street as you can see in the first photo. And last weekend there was a slew of firefighters who were conducting training and spent all day Saturday and Sunday on the roof cutting holes with chainsaws wearing all that gear. Keep in mind it was sunny and in the 70s. Ugh. Finally we got some action this week with the heavy equipment! The last two pictures show how they are tearing the building apart. It still is only halfway down. No action today. I guess they don't work on weekends.

It is sort of fun to watch people walk by and look at the building all torn apart. I'm sure I'm not alone in having memories of shopping there when it was QFC. And it is interesting watching the demolition guys use the huge, um, machine-thingies to tear the building apart and then sort the pieces so that they have a pile of twisted metal, a pile of crumbled concrete, a pile of wire bits, and a pile of mish-mash including wood, ceiling tiles, insulation, etc.
